二零零六年二月十八日星期六，晚上九時四十分。

皇后碼頭上還站著很多遊客，天星碼頭對出卻只有路人。有一個拉著行理箱，手上拿著紙牌的人，走到天星碼頭的入口等著。不知道他在等什麼，只知道紙牌上寫著的是”Hunger strike for what? Fairness!!!!!!!!”

有很多個感嘆號。起碼有八個。

從前，一個研究成不成功，要視乎其有效性(validity)，亦即，這個研究有多接近真實(Turth)。如今我們發現，採用不同的研究方法會得出不同的結果，而每一個結果都同樣接近真實，所以有效性(validity)變成眾數(validities)，真實亦變成眾數(Truths)。

正因為真實後面多了一個”s”，不同研究方法會有不同結論，我們就回到了一個基本問題。究竟你是想研究問題，還是為了得出一個你覺得正確的答案而選擇某一個研究方法，從而可以自我安慰一下？究竟是因為你相信，所以才去找答案支持自己？抑或是因為你找到答案，所以才相信？正如只講感性的信仰，人們是因為相信世上有主宰，然後才找理由去支持自己？

文化研究最忌taken for granted，當我們在文化研究內學習怎樣反思生活，又不只停留於反思層面之際，我們學會的，到底是do not take for granted 的態度，還是take everything in cultural studies for granted？ “do not take for granted”一點也不容易，人會很累。take for granted似乎就容易得多。

面對著那個非親非故的中四孩子，我擔心他應付不來。對著這個計會考分的英文「閱後吹水考試」(S.B.A.)，我想不到這與從前的英文會考有何分別。面對著他那位英文老師教給他的「對策」，我累得說不出一句話。

他說:「人人都係咁做架。」人人都到yahoo的字典網站，找一些很深的英文生字，來代替那些常用的英文字。原來，懂得找一些很深的英文生字來代替常用的英文字，這樣就會高分，怪不得我的兩次英文公開考試都只有D。

我想看看到底其他嶺南人對「嶺大的文化研究」有些什麼感覺，所以我玩了一個遊戲。於05年11月至06年2月期間，非正式地訪問了二十六位非文化研究系嶺南人，並要求被訪者用一個或多個形容詞來形容「文化研究」。為免對方因為記起我是文化研究系的而影響他們的答案，所以盡量要求被訪者作即時反應。遊戲的目的，是希望知道嶺南人對「文化研究」有什麼聯想。「文化研究」並無指明是「文化研究人 / 溝草人」或「文化研究系」。

除了一位嶺南人跟我談中大文化研究(文化及宗教研究)，港大比較文學之外，對於大部份被訪者來說，「文化研究」指的是「嶺大的文化研究」。被訪者分別來自社科系、BBA、中文系、英文系、哲學系、翻譯系的一年級。以及兩位非文化研究系二年級生。

這不是一個調查，只是一個遊戲。

如果文化研究不只是一個科目，一個學科，而是一種態度，一個使命，為的是要抗衝某些東西的氾濫的話，那麼，人們對文化研究的印象怎也不能是「錯concept」。

今天在一本書中找到一句：「紀錄片的本質在於教育，如果影片本身沒有絲毫娛樂性與情節，你將失去陳述觀點的機會。」如果目標受眾對你沒有興趣，你連陳述觀點的機會也沒有。當然，這種經過計算的，考慮受眾，然後作出修正，修正後甚至有可能不惜違背紀錄片本身的考量行為，不是人人也可以接受。

約幾個星期前，在一個BBC World Service的電台風煙節目中，主持人，聽眾與數個嘉賓即時討論了阿爾蓋達頭目拉登所發表的最新錄音講話。

節目內談及拉登突然發表講話的可能動機。有聽眾認為，拉登想藉此重新提醒那些與自己有共同信念的人，其領導地位沒有改變。另一位學者卻回應說，恐怖主義組織的內部鬆散，這才是問題所在。恐怖主義者的恐怖不在於他們是拉登的部下，事實上，恐怖主義者常各自行動。恐怖主義者的恐怖在於他們的信念，即是，歐美強國對他們的不公平對待是不能推翻的事實，無論怎樣都無法改變，所以，他們進行任何的報復行動都是合理和公義的。拉登的影響力下降與否，似乎與問題無關。

這一秒之內，到底同時發生了多少事情，是你跟我都沒能知道？又有多少我們知道的事情，我們有能力可以透徹了解？我們又可以為多少件自以為了解的事情，作一個「正確的」結論？

做自己可以做的，或許已經足夠。還有很多其他的，最多提醒旁人動手。要公平要公義，不僅是口號，還是個夢。追夢追到無悔之後，世界依舊不公不義。但無悔，不是因為收成大於付出；無悔，僅僅是因為自己付出過。

不甘心不明不白，所以即管聽聽到底是什麼一回事，聽完之後，以為清楚了解了細節，但其實自己又清楚了解了些什麼，自己永遠也不知道。但至少，當初我有聽過。
